Boston 又一城!

Freaking long since I updated on this blog. Was busy with my other blog http://nickel-low.blogspot.com/, do check it out. Anyway, this time would be a trip to Boston Concept Restaurant, Seri Manjung Perak branch. It was almost to the end of my posting then only did I and my friends had the sudden urge to pay this restaurant a visit.

Anyway, given our first time being there, we decided to go for the set menus, easier to choose from we thought. The menus were a whole lot of variety, and so many to choose from, special for each and anytime of the day, awesome! So we had a go on the Italian Style Grilled Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken Chop Rice and Thai Style Chicken Chop Rice.

Do try the cheese-baked items, I thought they looked good. Gonna try them soon.

For mii, the Italian Style Grilled Chicken was quite good, with mayonnaise cream webbed on top of a piece of ham sitting nicely just above the grilled chicken. But my personal favourite will have to be the Thai Style Chicken Chop Rice. Being fond of spicy foods, I still though it wasn't spicy enough. But then, this will do for my taste buds. Sweet and sour, it was quite a taste. I didn't like the Black Pepper Chicken Chop Rice to be honest, too peppery for mii. Still love the black pepper chicken at Kenny Rrrrr!

The side dishes at Boston were also quite good, although I didn't really managed to get the photos cause it was all gone when the food came. Really have to give a go on the side dishes there. The environment there was also very satisfying, cool and it really helps one to indulge in the food there. Price was reasonable and of  course, it could be one of the best Western cafes in Seri Manjung Perak.

I still have a lot to go through the menus in Boston, after all, one visit is never enough I always say. Will update this article again once I get more food into this tummy. For now, Boston, do give it a try then. I think there are many more outlets around Malaysia. Am looking forward to visit the one in Puchong, Selangor. Till then, cya!!

333 Seafood Restaurant Pan Mee (Perak)

Pan Mee

Next stop in Seri Manjung, Perak, would be 333 Seafood Restaurant. Located just beside The Store and behind James Cendol ( introduced in my previous episodes, http://food-oh-food.blogspot.com/2012/08/james-cendol-coolest-cendol-in-sitiawan_22.html  ), people usually go there for the great seafood varieties there. But in this episode, the Pan Mee has won my heart over with its unique taste and flavour. <Non-halal>

3 3 3!!

Unlike many other Pan Mee ( a flour made type of mee) I've tasted all around Malaysia, this was originally hand-made, and shredded into pieces by a hand-operated machine. Started as a small buisness by a father and son a year ago, it claims to be a heritage of Penang Pan Mee. What makes this dish so tantalizing is the way this chef cooks it. Instead of cooking a whole pot of soup and then serving it together with the mee like many other hawkers do, he begs to differ as he cooks the soup and mee on the spot upon order. So on weekends, do expect a longer queue.

Shredded!

Hand-made!

The soup is flavour-full, tasty, and with a tinge of the home-made chilli, everything pans out well in this delicious dish. The mee is also not as hard as Pan Mee usually are. This, chewy and soft, it really bodes well with the soup and stuff. Served at only RM3.50 per dish, this is something you have to get your hands on whenever you are nearby the area.

Rojak Manjung (Perak)

Plaza Sitiawan

Having tried Chinese food for some time already in Sri Manjung, it would seem that a change of taste is needed. Hence, I visited Restoran Rojak Manjung, a restaurant in the heart of Sri Manjung town. Well, it ain't that typical 'rojak buah' (mixed fruits in prawn paste) that we Northern's (Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang) usually have, but more like 'Passembor', or that's what they call it here, 'Rojak'.

To get to here, you'll pass by James Cendol (check out James Cendol here: http://food-oh-food.blogspot.com/2012/08/james-cendol-coolest-cendol-in-sitiawan_22.html ), and straight on you'll see The Store on your right. The restaurant is just opposite on your left, make a U-turn and you'll get to it from there. The restaurant itself is quite a building (Plaza Sitiawan), so it won't be hard to spot. On entering, you could see all kinds of Malay foodstuff, from nasi lemak, nasi ayam to nasi campur. But the eye-catching sight was of course the was the one selling 'Rojak'.

Sets to choose from.

Price for each set.

To order, you could choose from a variety of 'Rojak' sets from a price as low as RM3.50. But here, I would recommend you to choose the ingredients for your 'Rojak' according to your liking. Also, do take the 'cucur udang' (prawn crackers), that's the main ingredient for every 'Rojak' sold all and about Malaysia.

Whole load of 'Rojak' ingredients!

Rojak Sri Manjung

On taste, I'll be quite honest here. Overall, I'll rate it a 6/10, given that I've eaten so much awesome foodstuff these few weeks. But still, you'll have to try the 'cucur udang', crisp and fresh, it still is one of the best 'cucur udang' I've tasted in a long time.I'll also have to give praise to the gravy for the 'Rojak'. The gravy (kuah) is the one that scores here. Full of taste, a little spicy though, it goes really well with the other ingredients, certainly worth a try. Nasi campur and other foods are sold as well, but the prices for that are in fact higher than many other restaurants in Sri Manjung. Fruit juices are sold here as well, do note.

Carrot milk juice.

Apple lime juice.

So, as the title suggests, you would really want to try the 'Rojak' here instead of anything else. It is worth a try no doubt, after all, locals do claim it's the best 'Rojak' in Manjung!

Sugar Layered Pau at Restaurant Ye Si (Perak)

Located beside a busy street in Kg Koh, Perak, this old historical shop is one to go to for when you need a light tea-time snack. Yes, ask any locals there and they'll tell you that this is the place to get the best hot buns (called pau in Mandarin) in town!

To get to this area, simply follow the Kg Koh signboard. After you pass by ACS school and an overhead bridge, drive straight on until you see Maybank on your left. The restaurant is just next to it. To get a taste of these wonderfully made sugar layered buns, you'l have to come early, and on public holidays, you'll have to book them. The buns are freshly made everyday and made within a limited quantity. I myself had to return to the shop 3times which only then could I get a taste test of it.

Great place for breakfast or tea-time!

Layered goodness!

As proven by the long queue of locals at the shop, the buns tasted awesome. With rich grinded peanut paste and sweet melted sugar layer upon layer upon layer, this buns packs a whole lot of rich taste. The bun itself isn't too sticky that will get between your teeth, and it tastes sweet and spongy. Certainly worth a try for RM0.90 per piece! Do take note that they start selling this sugar layered buns at 3.30pm, but just to make sure, do come early.

Chopped into pieces of heaven!

Besides this, the shop also sells with a wide variety of Chinese dishes. I would highly recommend the 'lin fan' (淋饭) . Topped with 'wat tan hor' gravy and mixed with minced meat and prawns, this is a meal to savour. Full of taste and priced at only RM3.70, must try!

Lin Fan

The fried rice there is also of full taste. Could be one of the best fried rice I've tasted in a long time, also at RM3.70.

Fried rice

Also, do try the fish beehoon, I felt it was quite tasty but it may vary between customers. But just for the info, it's RM7 per serving.

Fish Bee hoon

Overall, this shop holds a wide range of mouh-watering dishes. Do come to explore but as the title suggests, make sure you get your hands on the sugar layered bun, totally awesome for mii!

Just like olden times!

Famous Traditional Biscuits In Sitiawan (Perak)

San Yew Chay Tau Sar Piah

1. San Yew Chay Biscuit Shop

This shop sells the famous Chinese Tau Sar Piah, coming in two types, black and white bean fillings. I would highly recommend the black bean and it is best when eaten when its still hot. It isn't the normal Penang Tau Sar Piah that you'll get. The fillings in this one is a little course, and is not easily smooshed when bitten into. A delicacy to be tasted at only 70cents per piece.

Hot from the oven!

Buisness hours: 9am to 2pm
Closes on Mondays of every two weeks.
Contact No. : 012-4645108, 017-5853119
Add: 67, Jalan Besar, Kampung Koh, 32000 Sitiawan, Perak.

Sin Lay Gong Piah

2. Sin Lay Biscuit Shop

Most locals will point to you this shop, although Chong Cia (will be introduced later) is a hard-core competitor to the famous Manjung Gong Piah. These biscuits are not fried, in fact they are stuck down a fired up well to be baked throughout. Coming in two main types, minced meat fillings or onion fillings, to taste them you would really have to book them early on from Sin Lay as the moment they finish making them, they'll be sold out soon enough. I wasn't able to get hold of them either, but you guys could try your luck there, who knows? But one thing's for sure, the flies swarming around the dough used to make the biscuits made mii feel lucky not to have tasted them.

That's where they came from!

For directions, do locate the Kg. Koh Wet Market (written as Pasar Awam Kg. Koh on signboards), head straight down and the shop will be located on your right along with many other shop houses. Drive slowly as this shop is small and quite miss-able.

At work.

Prices of each respectively.

Note: Closes on Sundays, finishes its last batch of biscuits at 1pm.

Lining up for biscuits!

3. Sitiawan Cheong Cia Gong Pian

Some local would swear to you that this the most famous out of the 3 biscuit shops introduced here. And you'll have to see to believe it. They'll tell you that they start selling the biscuits at 4.30pm, but be advised to start lining up by about 3.45pm. Mostly because being the biscuits being sold out in a matter of minutes!

Dough at work

As introduced at Sin Lay, the biscuits here are also baked down a fired-up well. I managed to get to know that this shop had a proud history of 23 years of baking! So expect the biscuits to be famous all and about. Same goes to here, having minced meat or onions as the main filling, be sure to eat them hot, because the taste and texture WILL change when it gets cold. They'll be like chewing rubber then.

Workers using sticks and hooks to get biscuits out of wells.

The shop closes on Sundays and public holidays. So if you're free, make sure you'll be there early on. Unlike Sin Lay, bookings are not allowed here. This is to ensure a first come first serve basis, fair enough!
