I Love Taiwan : Episode 6

Search for this tea shop in MaoKong.

The next day, many of us were worried on the news that Taiwan had been hit by 2 Taufans. Although there was nothing much more than rain and strong winds, we were still on precaution mode just in case anything happens. We were actually planning to visit 'MaoKong' 猫空 today, but feared that strong winds might just cancel out all our plans. After much enquiry about the place from the authorization, we were given the green light to continue our journey high up into the mountains.

It was raining at that time, but the gondolas were still operating properly. After buying our tickets, we all chose to experience the Crystal Gondola, one which you can see through the glass-made floor. It was something different compared to those normal gondolas, and it was worth the trip as lush greens whizzed by right under our feet.

Crystal Clear

Upon reaching there, many of us were surprised by the temperature there. We were in the mountains, yes, somewhat 4+++meters from sea level, but the weather there was so very hot. I did wonder whether it was a volcano anyway, but for a place so high up in the mountains, it was as hot as any other day in Malaysia. Weird! Many of us who wore jackets, thinking that its gonna get cold, soon took them off and were busy fanning away the heat. The biggest dissapointment was, there was nothing on top there to see or visit. Yeah, maybe those mountain scenery would make up to it, but other than that, nothing.

Still, for tea lovers, it is a place to sit down to a good cup of tea and enjoy the heavenly natural beauty there. But that was all that it could offer. Hence, it is of advice that if you ain't a tea lover, well this is certainly not the place for you. Alas, after some tea and food at a restaurant there, we soon got onto the gondolas and back to flat land. The place was near Taipei Zoo, hence I would advice to pay a visit here instead of 'MaoKong'. Well, translate that directly to English and you get, 'Cat Empty'. Yes, there were fat cats up there, and yes too, it was quite empty there.

Soon, we were travelling by MRT, still not knowing where we will be going next as the sky was at that time, pitched black. Winds were strong and the rain was just pouring. So, we decided to go somewhere safe, and hence, Taiwan Station Shopping Center was the main choice. It was nothing much that day, many plans were canceled out due to the unforgiving Taufans.

Forgetting to mention, we also visited a shopping complex, by where a vast variety of chocolates and sweets were sold there. The shopping complex is near the Taipei Main Station, where the famous Taiwan Rail Road Lunch Boxes were also sold there.

That night itself, we all went to 7-11 again, but without one of our friends Mei Kim. We were preparing a surprise for her birthday that night, hopefully by tomorrow, everything would be ready. We printed out photos for her, and planned her whole birthday. Well, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day than it is today!
