Wei Kei Roasted Goose Restaurant 伟记饭店深井烧鹅

The Famous Roasted Duck!

It all started on a day, mii and a few of my friends (JJ, mii, Beatrice, Siu Yin and Sin Toun) were on the way to get ourselves some much needed books in town. Then came the growling stomachs. Driving around wondering what to feast on, then our KL friend Sin Toun made a sudden suggestion, one that would soon open my eyes to new tastes!

A taste that will put you on cloud 9!

It was only morning, about 10.30am to be exact. We soon headed our way to Wei Kei Roasted Goose Restaurant (伟记饭店深井烧鹅). Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city at Jalan Pudu, and maneuvering ourselves through those busy yet small streets, we soon came upon the shop itself. Like any other of the old shops there, passed down by generations after generations, there it was with walls of green moss for decor, cracks in the roofs and with bricks stacked up one by one as building blocks of the building. A step closer and I smelt the rich flavours of roasted duck.

Walking into the shop made my mouth water much upon watching a worker there slicing up pieces of duck meat, with the rich, savory juices flowing out from within. It was a sight that really made mii wanna just sit down and eat! We ordered a half duck, kiam chai boi (sour veggi), choy sum (veggi) and their 'zhao pai' steam toufu, and although it was only early morning, our appetite never failed to make the most of this luxurious cuisine.

Served with home-made chilly and sour sauce, a delicacy to enjoy!

First, the duck came to show, submerged in rich duck gravy. Served with their homemade chilly and sour sauce, it was a perfect mixture all together. From then onwards, it was love at first bite. Unlike many other roasted ducks that I've feasted on, this is something different, something special. The meat was quite tender for a duck, not to mention the crispy duck skin, and the juice just kept flowing at every bite. Mixed with the sauce, it really is a comfort for taste buds, simply magical! Most importantly, this roasted duck did not have the annoying-duck-smell that many of us detest. For a person who isn't really fond of roasted ducks like mii, this is something I will comeback for more. Well, let's just say, I was stand corrected on the fact that I thought roasted ducks were 'unattractive'. XD

Choy sum

One more thing to add to this wonderful meal is their famous homemade toufu. On looking, it's just plain looking toufu. But upon the first bite, well, you don't even have to move a single muscle. It just melts in your mouth. So soft, yet so tasty! The flavour was up to its standards, and for a toufu lover, this certainly goes into my accreditation of one of the best toufu ever! also, do try out the kiam chai boi and choy sum, they are really tasty as well!

Steamed-toufu, a must try!

The main dish at this restaurant is their roasted goose however. Just to mention, half a duck, kiam chai boi, choy sum and the steam toufu is just enough to fill the tanks for us five persons, so for this trip, it will be roasted duck, knowing that the next time I visit, I will get my taste buds on that roasted goose as well. This is certainly a haven for roasted duck lovers, and it really is a must-try place for the best roasted-ducks in town!

My friends, from the left, Sin Toun, Beatrice, Siu Yin and JJ.

Thx to my friends, cause of them, my food-filled life just got better still! XD
